Membership

All high schools must register for both Coast Forensic League (CFL) and California High School Speech Association (CHSSA) annually in order to be eligible to participate in CFL tournaments (see explainer). Please note that registering for CFL does not automatically make you a member of NSDA or of NSDA California Coast District.

Coaches, please see the School Eligibility Summary to inquire if your school is eligible to compete at our League Tournaments for the 2022-23 Season. Schools eligible should have a "Yes" in the column for "Tournament Eligibility."

Registration for the 2022-23 season is now open.

To register for CFL, please follow the six steps below.

Step 1: CFL Membership Dues

CFL membership dues for the 2022-23 season are $92 per school. This amount increases to $154 after October 1. They must be paid separately from tournament entry fees, so you cannot pay them out of your general CFL balance. You must pay membership dues even if your overall CFL account balance going into the season is positive.

2a. Mail a check covering your school's CFL membership dues to the CFL Treasurer. Payment instructions can be found on the Membership Form below, which also functions as your invoice.

2b. Alternatively, you can pay your membership dues online using PayPal's 'Pay Now' button right below this paragraph. If the button doesn't appear, refresh the page and wait for it to load. If you don't have a PayPal account, the button allows you to pay with a debit or credit card. You must enter your school name in the field right above the button before clicking the button.

Step 2: CHSSA Registration Fees

The fee for participating in CHSSA is currently $100. CFL will cover 2022-23 CHSSA participation fees for all its member schools. Please do not pay your CHSSA fees this season.

Note: This only applies to schools that complete their CFL membership registration by November 28.

If your school's CHSSA fees have already been covered (e.g. if you have a judge bond rollover from the 2022 State Tournament), you will receive a $100 credit you can use to pay for league tournaments.

Step 3: CFL Membership (PDF Form)

Print and fill out the CFL School Membership Form. Obtain a signature of your school administrator. Then scan the signed form and save it as a PDF.

Make sure the name of the file is your school name.

To reduce the workload for CFL officers, member schools are encouraged to initial on the form next to the 'electronic mail' option for receiving communications from CFL.

Step 4: CHSSA Registration (PDF Form)

Fill out the CHSSA Registration Form. Obtain a signature of your school administrator - either a wet signature or an e-signature.

Ignore the part of the form that discusses fees (see Step 2).

Step 5: CFL School Information (Google Form)

Upload the signed CFL Membership and CHSSA Registration forms using the CFL School Information Google Form.

The emails you enter in the School Information Google Form will be added to the CFL coaches Google Group, which has access to our member folder in Google Drive.

Step 6: CHSSA Registration (Google Form)

Also upload your signed CHSSA Registration Form using this CHSSA Google Form.

Ignore the part of the form that discusses fees (see Step 2).
